Eligibility for PAT

The Himachal Pradesh Takniki Shiksha Board, Dharamshala conducts Polytechnic Admission Test every year for admission to three years diploma courses in various Government and Private (un-aided) polytechnics in the State of Himachal Pradesh. The three years diploma courses offered during the academic year 2011-12 are:-
  1. Electronics and Communication Engg.
  2. Computer Engineering
  3. Mechanical Engineering
  4. Information Engineering
  5. Electrical Engineering
  6. Automobile Engineering
  7. Architectural Assistantship
  8. Instrumentation Engineering
  9. Civil Engineering
  10. Fashion Designing

The test is conducted in 29 different towns of the State through more that 90 test centres in single shift from 10.00AM to 1.00 PM.

ELIGIBILITY: The candidates appearing for Polytechnic Admission Test should have either pass matriculation examination or should have appeared in matriculation examination or its equivalent examination with Science, mathematics and English from H.P. Board of School Education or any other recognized Board in India.

The syllabus prescribed for each subject shall be totally based on the latest syllabus of matriculation as prescribed by the H.P. Board of School Education. There will be 150 questions of multiple choice type having four different options. The candidates will have to choose the correct answer and shade against the appropriate choice in the OMR response sheet with blue/black pen adhering to the instructions provided.

There shall be no re-evaluation or re-checking of the answer sheet. For a correct answer, 04 marks will be awarded and 01 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. The test shall be conducted through a single question paper of 3 hours duration as per the following details:-

Mathematics : 50 questions
Physics : 50 questions
Chemistry : 30 questions
English : 20 questions
Total : 150 questions

To qualify the test to make a candidate eligible for counseling, the candidates belonging to Scheduled caste/Schedule Tribe and OBC categories shall require 60 marks i.e. 10% of total marks and the candidates belonging to General category shall be required to secure 90 marks i.e. 15% of the total marks.

At present, there are 09 Polytechnics in the Government Sector having 1330 seats in different branches, 16 Private(un-aided) Polytechnics having 3020 seats in different branches and 01 diploma level Pharmacy Institute having 60 seats.
